WHAT’S UP @ 6855 – June 1 to 7

Happy Trinity Sunday!

Today our May daily Rosary draws to a close with a celebratory potluck afterwards in the Parish Centre. Bring a beverage or sweet / savoury to share if you have a chance.  But most important: be there!

A hearty welcome to two new brothers who were exemplified last Monday:  Manuel Comullob and Reynaldo Espiritu.

Thanks to those who have RSVPed regarding the JC Spring Brunch happening next Sunday June 7.  I need to provide the head count to our host Council 10681 by June 1st, so please let me know right away if you will be joining us and how many…  Payments can be made at the door:  $15 for adults and $10 for kids age 5 to 12.

This third Person is called, in technical language, the Holy Ghost or the ‘spirit’ of God. Do not be worried or surprised if you find it (or Him) rather vaguer or more shadowy in your mind than the other two. I think there is a reason why that must be so. In the Christian life you are not usually looking at Him. He is always acting through you.” — C. S. Lewis

WHAT’S UP @ 6855 – May 25 to 31

Happy Pentecost!

The Hawaiian Luau was a tropical hit.  Kudos to the Fourth Degree Knights under the faithful navigation of FN Bro. Edgar Ursua and the Assembly 2485 Executive for putting on such a crowd pleaser.  We extend that to the hardworking wives as well.

We hit a few strikes, too, with our JC Family Bowling on Sunday afternoon.  Okay, we did gutter a ball or two…

Congratulations to the four brothers who ascended to the Second Degree last Monday: Greg Bautista, Theodore Brabander, David Chong and Joseph Lo.

Everyone, please bring your candidates to the First Degree Exemplification this Monday.

The Joint Council Spring Brunch is happening on Sunday June 7 from 11am to 1pm at St. Joseph the Worker Parish Centre Gym.  Our host Councils 10681 and 11961 offer a delectable menu at $15 per adult and $10 for kids age 5 thru 12 which includes:

Scrambled Eggs
Pork Sausages
Shredded Chicken Fried Rice
Pork Chow Mein with Bean Sprouts
Diced Beef with Black Bean Sauce
Sweet & Sour Fish
Fruit Salad
Juice and Tea and coffee

Please email me if you would like to join this lighthearted gathering so I can submit a head count by June 1st.

Our clergy and religious appreciation dinner is coming up this June 13, where we treat our Pastor, Assistant Pastor and Sisters to a relaxed sit-down dinner at Mayfair Golf and Country Club.  Our way of expressing our thanks for all they do throughout the year, especially to Fr. Nick as he leaves us for further studies in Rome.  Cost to you is whatever you order from the menu plus the customary taxes and gratuity.  Let me know if you would like to join this occasion so I can reserve the right number of seats by June 8.

And JC Golf registration deadline is coming up as well.  Golf pro or not, this is a good opportunity to socialize over a few holes and burgers.  Or you can skip the golf altogether and head straight for the burgers.  Attached is the registration form which you can fill out and submit to Bros. Francis Lee, Happy Tay or Sundy Arca.

Don’t forget to bring a few cans of food to share for Food Bank Sunday this weekend.

Have a Spirit-powered week!

Happy Victoria Day!

God granted us a beautiful day to March for Life in Victoria last Thursday and we brought our pro-life, pro-woman, pro-child message to the public square.  Some pictures have been posted here.

Thank you to Mike and Doreen Ripplinger for hosting our Monthly Family Rosary in their home.

Our daily Rosary continues at our Lady’s Memorial for the Unborn in St. Paul Church.

We urge all First Degree Knights to step up to the Second Degree this Tuesday May 19.  Registration begins at 7:00pm.  Please contact me right away so we can prepare the certificates ahead of time.

Trade in your dress shirt and tie for an aloha shirt this weekend, Brothers.  I hope you all have your tickets to the Hawaiian Luau being put on by the Fourth Degree Knights of Pope John Paul I Assembly 2485.  Proceeds benefit the many charitable works of the Knights of Columbus over the fraternal year.

And for those whose idea of fun is more on the sporty side, we have Family Bowling on Sunday.

WHAT’S UP @ 6855 – May 11 to 17

Congratulations to Lynne Heathe, our Mother of the Year!  The wife of Bro. John Heathe, she is mother to four and grandmother to sixteen.  Her faithful service to our Lord — coordinating the Adoration Chapel, promoting devotion to His Divine Mercy, proclaiming His Word as weekday and Sunday lector, and championing the unborn — while taking care of the family He has blessed upon her is a model and example worthy of emulation.

Thank you to all the Brother Knights who helped out at the Pancake Breakfast this month and made it extra special for the Moms.  Thanks to Bro. Americo and Maria Silva for the flowery touch!

At the General Meeting this Monday, we will be taking up a collection to assist the family of Bro. Jackson Valenzuela.  Cheques can be made payable to his widow, Nora Valenzuela.

Your presence at the Prayer Vigil on Tuesday and Funeral Mass on Wednesday for Bro. Jackson will be a great source of comfort to the family.

Our Monthly Family Rosary at the Ripplinger residence has been moved to Wednesday, May 13, so people can attend the Prayer Vigil.  A good move that is, as it coincides with the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.

But we have to be up early the next day for the carpool to Victoria for March for Life.  Meet up at St. Paul Church parking lot at 6am so we can catch the 7am ferry at Tsawassen.  We may have a couple of seats still available if you can make it.  Let me know.

Bro. Francis Yong has been gathering the names for the JC Family Bowling Tournament happening on May 24 at the Zone.  This will be a fun time for the kids and adults alike.  $20 for adults, $10 for kids age 12 and under.  Deadline to register is May 15.  Please contact Francis 604-273-8175 /francisyong123@hotmail.com.

Our daily Rosary continues and we have quite a bevy of regular attendees.  Come and join.  The weather has been beautiful and the roses surrounding our Blessed Mother’s Memorial for the Unborn remind us that Rosary means “a crown of roses”.  Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses.

May Mary our Mother obtain the graces we need from her Son!

WHAT’S UP @ 6855 – May 4 to 10

We congratulate our new soldiers in Christ: 65 boys and girls received the Sacrament of Confirmation last Tuesday, along with the Rosary remembrance that Council 6855 provided each one to arm them with prayers for the spiritual battles ahead.

Congratulations, too, to Bro. Francis Lee for 10 years of volunteer service with the Canadian Blood Service.  He was honoured with a plaque and acclaimed for his outstanding volunteer contribution to the community at the Annual Honouring Our Lifeblood awards ceremony last April 28.

Our daily Rosary was off to a great start this May 1st, which also happened to be the First Friday (Sacred Heart of Jesus) and the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker.  So we had the whole Holy Family along with 20 or so Knights and other parishioners gathered that beautiful evening.  Join us whenever you can.  Our Blessed Mother will be pleased.

The Joint Council Family Bowling tournament is pushing through on May 24 Sunday afternoon.  This is great family bonding time regardless of whether you know how to bowl or not.  Here is the link to the poster.  I need to send in the names by May 15 so please let me know if you can come and how many you are brining.

On a more solemn note:  we bade goodbye to Bro. Jackson Valenzuela, who joined our Creator yesterday.  Please extend your condolences to his family.  We are taking up a collection to help them out – whatever each one of us can spare adds up to much when we all participate.  This gesture rings true to our founder’s original mandate of taking care of the widow and orphans in our community.

Our Sis. Lyce Rozario’s scheduled knee replacement surgery has been moved up to May, so we will be cancelling the Dancercise classes this May, to be resumed in September when we hope she will ready to bounce back onto her twinkletoes.  Please keep her in your prayers.

So far, we have a couple more seats available in my van for March for Life on May 14.  Let me know if you can join us.

I wish all your wives and mothers a Happy Mothers Day!  Where would we be without them…

“The Rosary is a powerful weapon to put the demons to flight and to keep oneself from sin… If you desire peace in your hearts, in your homes, and in your country, assemble each evening to recite the Rosary. Let not even one day pass without saying it, no matter how burdened you may be with many cares and labors.” – Pope Pius XI

DAILY ROSARY – May 1 to 31

0000709_deluxe-mens-rosaryJoin us at the Memorial for the Unborn 7pm weekdays, after evening Mass on weekends.

Daily Rosary

Oh what a beautiful day to start our daily Rosary for the month of May!  It was also the First Friday (honouring the Sacred Heart of Jesus), as well as the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker.  The Holy Family in all its blessed and blessing completeness!11026328_1658882361007165_7237454828098340168_o

Join us for the rest of the month — 7pm weekdays, after the evening Mass on weekends.  Our Blessed Mother awaits to shower her favours upon us all!

WHAT’S UP @ 6855 – April 27 to May 3

The 104th Annual BC and Yukon State Convention this weekend was graced by the presence of several Bishops who shared many words of wisdom for us Knights.  On this Good Shepherd Sunday, we thank God for and invoke His blessing upon these good shepherds who guide and challenge us to pursue our many worthy activities on a higher spiritual plane.  More to come in our April newsletter.

Thank you to all of you who worked tirelessly for the State Convention, from the committee members to the volunteers and entertainment crew.

I am pleased to let you know, Brothers, that our Council 6855 brought home two Service Program Awards given out during the Awards Ceremony:  Church (for the musical fundraiser Right Here, Write Now!) and Culture of Life (for our40 Days for Life vigil).  I know we don’t do these things to win awards or recognition, but out of a sense of duty and stewardship.  And out of love for the Lord, and in Him, our love for neighbour.  But the awards do serve as a way of sharing what the 134 Councils in the State do, and inspire all of us with fresh ideas and renewed resolve to harness our manpower for our neighbour’s good and God’s greater glory!

I extend hearty congratulations to our Degree Teams. Once again, we took home the Leonard Bergonder trophy for Most Active in Degree Work.

We welcomed five gentlemen at our First Degree Exemplification after our Membership Blitz last weekend. Truly there are many more gentlemen out there just waiting for your personal invitation.

I apologize ahead of time if I am off-circuit this week, as we will be physically moving between two homes starting this Monday.

Let us bow our heads together in prayer for the people of Nepal, for those who lost their lives and those who struggle to cope with this tragedy.  Let us do what we can to reach out to them in this time of great need.

Let us also pray for our young people who are about to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on April 28.  May the power of the Holy Spirit descend mightily and transform them into soldiers for Christ!

May is our Blessed Mother’s month, and we start our daily Rosary on Friday May 1st at 7pm.  We pray for all of the above intentions, and for all mothers.  Let us all do our best to join this devotion.

Thank you to those who have let me know they will be joining us for the March for Life this coming May 14.  If you haven’t done so, please email me to confirm your attendance so I have numbers and can plan the transportation.

Have a blessed week!
