Knights Educational Seminar

1970673_713338648782762_2374197237413319345_nThank you to all the Brother Knights who attended and presented tonight at the initial installment of our Educational Seminar series.  It was a great opportunity to refresh our knowledge about our Order — what, how, why we do what we do —  to address pressing issues at hand, and to hear back from the floor questions and suggestions.  A modest start which we pray will snowball in God’s good time.

Special thanks to Mrs. Patricia Barnwell for the very tasty banana bread!

Welcome, New Brother Knights!

WHAT’S UP @ 6855 – February 16 to 22

11001905_712282375555056_6255536048521425943_nThank you to all our hardworking Pancake Breakfast crew for what to the rest of the Parish was a leisurely delicious breakfast. We hosted some special guests this morning, including our State Deputy Ed Shawchuk and his wife Sandra, as well as the newly installed officers of the Catholic Women’s League.  Thanks, too, to our Blood Pressure checkers and to Bro. Americo Silva for the work they put toward looking after people’s health and well-being.  And to Bros. Francis Lee and Tony Rodriguez for collecting signatures for our anti-assisted suicide petition, creating awareness and providing folks with a vehicle to air their alarm about this issue.

WHAT’S UP @ 6855 – February 9 to 15

This was a dark week in the history of Canada as the Supreme Court struck down the law criminalizing assisted suicide. Can you imagine our doctors prescribing medication with the following instructions: if the pain persists, give her two at night and call the funeral director in the morning… Can you imagine what the state of elderly and palliative care would look like 20 years hence were we to trod down this slippery slope? For comparison: think of when a similarly “compassionate” ruling was passed by the Supreme Court back in 1988 striking down the law against abortion. Twenty years later, we have this grim statistic: one in four pregnancies end in abortion.

WHAT’S UP @ 6855 – February 2 to 8

This past week has been a blur for me, sidelined as I was by an awful flu virus.  I do apologize for falling behind on my email responses and blog.

Thankfully, the kids were up and about for the Free Throw Championship last Saturday and four of them will be advancing to Regionals later this month.  Thank you to Brother Knights who coordinated and helped out at this event.

It doesn’t look like the Archdiocese of Vancouver is participating in the 40 Days for Life campaign this year, which makes our Day of Prayer brigade each month even more crucial for uniting our prayers to end abortion.  Our first Day of Prayer for 2015 was well attended, but we could do much better by covering all 24 hours!  Brothers, let us give this our best effort as a sincere sign of our desire to end abortion and our humble need for heaven’s help to thwart all other assaults against life at its most vulnerable stages.

WHAT’S UP @ 6855 – January 26 to February 1

Last Saturday, we advanced 11 Knights to the 3rd Degree, four of them from our Council.  Several State Council Officers were present, including Worthy State Deputy Ed Shawchuk.  Thank you to everyone who made this happen and congratulations to our Council’s newest 3rd Degree Knights:

  • Sundy Arca
  • Marc Folefac
  • Thomas Heeney
  • Kevin Sones

It was a memorable ceremony, even for us old-timers who were afforded the chance to once again reflect on the meaning of Knighthood and how well we have lived up to the principles of charity, unity and fraternity.   (Photo Gallery)

This Monday, we all have the opportunity to offer the blessings of Knighthood to a friend or family member who is a practicing Catholic age 18 and up.  Bring them to the 1st Degree Exemplification at 7:15pm in the Parish Centre.

Come and cheer on our youth at the Free Throw Championship this Saturday, in between spending an hour of Adoration at the Chapel where we pray for this month’s Day of Prayer intention:  Let us pray for all those who hold positions of power, that they may have the moral courage to speak up and enact laws to protect all human life, especially at its most vulnerable stages.

Finally, make good on those New Year resolutions and join Sis. Lyce and Bro. Rick for Dancercise on Friday!

A blessed week to you all.
