This was a dark week in the history of Canada as the Supreme Court struck down the law criminalizing assisted suicide. Can you imagine our doctors prescribing medication with the following instructions: if the pain persists, give her two at night and call the funeral director in the morning… Can you imagine what the state of elderly and palliative care would look like 20 years hence were we to trod down this slippery slope? For comparison: think of when a similarly “compassionate” ruling was passed by the Supreme Court back in 1988 striking down the law against abortion. Twenty years later, we have this grim statistic: one in four pregnancies end in abortion.
Brother Knights, I urge you to sign the petition at this link asking Parliament to use the notwithstanding clause to combat the travesty of this ruling. Spread the word.
On to happier thoughts… I wish you all a Happy Family Day long weekend. I am attaching the Knights of Columbus Family Prayer as an aid to celebrating this special day. Don’t forget to put aside those electronic gadgets. As if it wasn’t hard enough encouraging families to pray together, now we have to even remind them to PLAY TOGETHER!
Just make sure you come back in time for our General Meeting on Monday night. Many important events are coming up so your attendance and input are called upon.
Family Rosary Night is this Tuesday. Thank you to Bro. Tony Rodriguez for being our host this month. RSVP Bro. Tony at 604-612-7824 so he knows how many chairs to set out.
Pancake breakfast setup starts at 10am on Saturday – all hands on deck make quick work. Let’s all show up full force on Pancake Breakfast Sunday – a great opportunity to find a good many men in our Parish who have yet to be invited to become a Knight! Bring them to the 1st Degree Exemplification the very next day February 16.
February is Heart Month, so our SARAH blood pressure team is called upon once again to help our parishioners check this vital statistic during Pancake Breakfast.
Don’t forget: mark down Tuesday February 17 between 7-9pm on your calendars for our all-important Knights Education Seminar! Our phone committee will be reaching out to you this week. Let us pray to the Holy Spirit that we all respond with a council-empowering YES to this invitation!
I encourage you to get into the habit of checking our website for updates as they happen: kofc6855.ca
